Pupil Premium & Year 7 Catch Up

The pupil premium provision is additional funding provided to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gap between their attainment and that of their peers. This extra funding is determined by the proportion of pupils receiving Free School Meals based on school census figures. This year the Ilford County High School has received £56,567.50 of pupil premium funding.

School benchmarking data, published annually by the government, identifies any groups of young people who are at risk of under-performing in relation to public examinations. At ICHS we believe that the development of the whole child is important and therefore will not be targeting this additional funding purely at examination performance directly. Building self-esteem and confidence amongst young people is important for their personal development and is likely, in due course, to impact upon academic performance as personal skills and attributes increase.

In the year 2019-2020, schools will receive £935 funding for each child who has been registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years.

ICHS has worked hard to identify the individual needs of its disadvantaged pupils in order to produce a number of strategies that ensure all students are provided with the best opportunity to reach their potential and beyond. These strategies have been developed utilising research conducted by the Sutton Trust so that our chosen interventions deliver the best possible support for students and value for money.
