Leadership & Skills Development Opportunities

Leadership and Skills Development Opportunities in the Sixth Form at ICHS

PASTORAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Students will be placed in tutor groups and will be placed under the pastoral care of their tutor, their Director of Student Development Team and the Sixth Form. The Personal Development curriculum is designed to prepare students for life in modern Britain, teaching them the skills and understanding they need to keep themselves healthy, happy and safe. Futures lessons, which are careers and personal development focused  are also part of the personal development programme.

WELLBEING AND SEND

Our aim at Ilford County will always be to promote positive mental health for every member of our staff and student body. We pursue this aim using both universal, whole school approaches and specialised, targeted approaches directed to all students. Our dedicated team of staff are always happy to see students as a one off or part of a support programme.
At ICHS, the Inclusion Team will support all students identified with SEN. Our role is to support both students and teachers in identifying strategies to provide the student with the best opportunity to reach their potential, both academically and socially.

EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION EPQ

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a Level 3 Qualification that may be taken in Year 12 alongside A level choices. It is an independent research project in which students choose their own topic, set their own question and carry out their own research. Their will either write a dissertation or produce an ‘artefact’ (such as a computer program, model or piece of artwork) together with a written report.
The EPQ is the equivalent to half an A Level (A* = 28 UCAS points) and can help students stand out in their personal statement or interview, especially if they want to go on to study subjects that are not offered at A Level, or if they wish to apply for competitive courses or places at Russell Group or Oxbridge universities.  They will also learn valuable transferable skills, such as independent research, project management, critical thinking, and communication.
