Enrichment
At Ilford County High School, we are proud to offer a vibrant and inclusive enrichment programme that encourages all pupils to explore new interests, develop existing passions and enjoy meaningful experiences beyond the classroom. Whether pupils find fulfilment in Drama, Musical Performance, Sports, or in more niche pursuits such as chess, computing, debating or even Warhammer club, our extensive range of clubs and societies ensures there is something for everyone.
Our enrichment activities are designed to be dynamic and engaging, running before school, at lunchtime and after school. They fall into three broad categories:
Academic
Supporting pupils in their studies while allowing them to delve deeper into subject areas through year-round activities.
Enrichment
Offering opportunities to try something new or build on current interests, from politics and comics to coding and public speaking.
Sport
Coordinated by the PE Department, these seasonal activities promote enjoyment, teamwork and physical wellbeing, whether through competitive teams or recreational play.
We actively encourage pupils to take initiative. If a particular interest isn’t yet catered for, we support them in establishing new clubs with like-minded peers. This fosters leadership, creativity, and a sense of ownership in their school experience.
A standout feature of our offer is the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, which provides exciting and challenging opportunities for pupils aged 14–25. Through bronze, silver, and gold awards, participants grow in confidence, develop teamwork and leadership skills and form lasting friendships. The scheme also enhances university applications, making it a valuable part of a pupil’s personal development.
Most of our enrichment activities are free to join and where costs are involved, we strive to keep them minimal. Financial support is available for eligible pupils to ensure that everyone can participate fully.
Ultimately, our goal is for pupils to have fun, build connections across year groups and engage in worthwhile pursuits that enrich their school life and prepare them for the future.
