Ilford County High School is very proud of its links to its community and particularly with partner Primary Schools. This work provides valuable opportunities for boys to take on roles of responsibility and leadership and to develop as mature young men capable of contributing positively their school and community.

Over half of all our Year 12 students are supporting the work of young pupils in the areas of Computing, Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Modern Languages. A significant number of our senior students have achieved Leadership Awards in Sport, Languages, Numeracy or Literacy, with others gaining the Junior Football Organisers Award.

ICHS has Faith Ambassadors visiting local Primary Schools working to support the development of philosophical ideas and values within the borough.

For many years Sixth Form students have worked closely with a local residential home for the elderly on photography and email projects. We were awarded the HUG award for this initiative.

Working with partners in Europe and beyond, ICHS has achieved Full International School status. The school is part of a network of UKI schools, including four Redbridge partner primary schools, and is seeking to establish links with partners in Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, the Czech Republic, southern Africa and the USA. In Modern Languages 20 students have achieved the British Airways Language Flag Award since 2011.

The school is working closely with universities on active research and past projects include Cosmic Rays and the degradation of car tyres. ICHS has achieved recognition, at Silver Award, as an Eco-school and continues to seek to improve its contribution in the areas of recycling and energy saving.

We have established an excellent partnership with the Newham bookshop through which we have developed a programme of visiting authors such as: Eoin Colfer, Simon Mayo, Robert Muchamore and Jonathan Stroud. These events have supported literacy and reading for pleasure within the school and have been widely supported by partner Primary Schools and neighbouring Secondary Schools within Redbridge.
