LRC (Learning Resource Centre)

The Learning Resource Centre is the centrepiece of Teaching and Learning for the school.

It is situated along the back corridor on the site of the old gymnasium. With a mezzanine floor for Sixth Form study, at least 92 students can be accommodated within the main body of the LRC.  There is seating for a further 30 students in the computer suite.

The LRC offers a mixture of book and non-book resources. On entering, boys can use the Internet Bar for quick access to their work or website research. They can borrow laptop computers before and after school and at lunchtime for more lengthy research or study.

The computer suite, with interactive white board, is located at the rear of the facility and can be booked by teachers to deliver lessons, where research and information skills are re-enforced.

Since opening, the book stock for the LRC has been increased by over 80% to nearly 12,000. There are fiction, non-fiction and reference books together with newspapers, magazines and subject specific journals. UCAS and Careers resources are also available.

Reading for pleasure is reinforced with many initiatives to encourage reading such as Accelerated Reader, author visits, Book Week and participation in book award schemes.

This multi-functional facility can also host meetings, music concerts and other events with the use of its retracting screen, projector and full sound and lighting system. A lift has been installed for disabled access to the mezzanine floor.
