The new Learning Resource Centre was opened in October 2007 and is the centrepiece of Teaching and Learning for the School. It is situated along the back corridor on the site of the old gymnasium. With a mezzanine floor for Sixth Form study, at least 92 students can be accommodated within the main body of the LRC, which is well above the requirement of 10% of the school roll. There is seating for a further 30 students in the computer suite. The LRC offers a mixture of book and non-book resources. On entering, boys can use the Internet Bar for quick access to their work or website research. They can borrow laptop computers before and after school and at lunchtime for more lengthy research or study. The computer suite, with inter-active white board, is located at the rear of the facility and can be booked by teachers to deliver lessons, where research and information skills are re-enforced. Since opening, the book stock for the LRC has been increased by 18% to 8200 with a view to have at least 10,000 by the end of 2008. There are fiction, non-fiction and reference books together with newspapers, magazines and subject specific journals. There is also a small range of audio books, videos, DVD and CD’s available. UCAS, University prospectuses and Careers resources are also available. A Reading Club is held after school every Wednesday to review new books and encourage reading for pleasure. This multi-functional facility can also host meetings, music concerts and other events with the use of its retracting screen, projector and full sound and lighting system. A lift has been installed for access to the mezzanine floor.
Opening hours: 8.00am – 4.30pm everyday. |
