Department description: At Ilford County High, we try to introduce a wide range of sporting activities and the basic skills involved. These include the major team sports of football, hockey, rugby, basketball and cricket. Swimming is a major activity with all swim strokes being covered by expert teaching staff. The school's swimming pool is also used for water polo lessons in Years 10 and 11. Gymnastics is also taught in Years 7 through 9. In the summer term, track and field events, including sprints, middle-distance running, long and triple jumps and the shot-putt are covered.
At GCSE the course is essentially 40% theoretical and 60% practical. A significant proportion of the practical is assessed through rules tests, officiating and coursework.
