A2 Music (9501)

Through an integrated programme of composing, listening and performing at all key stages we aim to provide a challenging and enriching music curriculum for all pupils.

Ofsted report: Provision for Music is good.

'Superb musical skills and artistry, exemplary lesson planning and a tireless intellectual determination to exploit the learning possibilities in every interaction, create for pupils a fine learning opportunity.'

Department description: At Key Stage 3 students follow half-termly modules based on either live music making or composition and performance using music computers.

At Key Stage 4 the course follows a series of modules that explores a diverse range of musical styles and techniques. Some extra instrumental tuition is usually essential to achieve a high grade.

At Key Stage 5 the course revisits areas explored at Key Stage 4 at a higher technical level and within a broader historical and geographical context. Most lessons, whatever the main theme, involve elements of performance, listening and composing.
