Mathematics is so thoroughly embedded in every aspect of the world that it is a very difficult subject to take lightly. The range of practical applications is boundless. Ofsted report: Provision for mathematics is very good. 'Teaching is good and seeks to develop students' understanding. Relationships between students and teachers are very good. Students have confidence in their teachers.' 'Standards are well above average overall. The department has sustained the high standards identified at previous inspection.' Department description: The Mathematics courses offered give an important insight into the applications of the skills learned. At A level, there are a range of courses to choose from. The subject areas consist of pure mathematics, mechanics, statistics and decision mathematics. These can be seen in the A Level Handbook, available during the application procedure for Sixth Form entry.
