Economics and Business Studies are becoming increasingly important to later life. Students are challenged intellectually and emerge with a clearer understanding of money matters and the world of work. Ofsted report: Provision for economics and business studies is very good. 'Standards [in Business Studies], overall, are at present well above the national average. There is a rising trend in the GCE A-level examination results. In 2003, 64 per cent gained the higher A–B grades.' 'The expertise of the teachers is a very significant fact in the strong learning of the students. The teachers are confident in subject matter and the lessons are always very well prepared.' Department description: At Ilford County High, we aim to develop students' understanding of economics and business and the implications of government and business decisions, as exemplified by history. The courses offer the chance to explore Economic and Business principles, and analyse the effects of decisions on individual firms, markets and the economy. At GCSE and A level, we concentrate on the discussion of cause and effect, and the importance of different influences on the state of the economy. The course is highly enjoyable, and a range of extra curricular activties are available including the Stock Market competition Proshare, visits to the City of London and conferences abroad.
