Biology is an opportunity to explore a vigorous scientific approach to the natural world. At Ilford County High, we strive to nurture this opportunity, through fieldwork and practical studies.

Department description: The Biology courses offered give an important insight into the applications of the skills learned, and the effects for the greater population of the world of biological and human factors.

In the lower school, Biology is studied in conjunction with Chemistry and Physics as part of the Key Stage 3 Science curriculum. The department offers Year 7 and Year 8 pupils the opportunity to receive science mentoring from high achieving Year 12 and 13 students.

The full GCSE Biology examination is taught during part of Year 9 and all of Years 10 and 11. Pupils may take the AQA Biology GCSE or the Science Double Award GCSE depending on thier aptitude in this subject. Both courses are assesed by examined modules throughout the course.

At A level the current Year 12 are preparing for the AQA AS level Biology. Whilst Year 13 are the last cohort to prepare for the Edexel A level.
